in memory of dakota

well today we had to put down our oldest dog dakota, we had her for 12 years and she was our first togeather. i got her from the humane society for sue about a year after we moved here, i was working out of state and only comming home on the weekends so i got dakota for her to keep her company, the damn dog bonded with sue big time the first week i was gone i came home about 11 at night and she locked on to my pant leg and showed me who was now house boss! we are grateful for the time we all had together even tho it wasn't nearly enough, she got cancer and her legs we're failing her also so it was just her time, we we're with her all the way and stayed by her side just as she did for us for the last 12 years, the four of us had alot of great times togeather and will cherish her memory forever. we still have are other dog starr but dakota will allways hold a special place in our hearts.
this one was one of her favorite past times harassing the squirrels in our yard
she will be so missed, her and starr are the only children me ans sue will ever have, these two are so spoiled we dont think they even know that they are dogs. here's starr
the meaning to the expression if you love something set it free has never been truer than today because we set her free from the failing body that was imprisoning her, she is now truly free. we love you dakota.

Hey guys.
I am so sorry for your loss. Pets really do become members of the family, and it hurts just as much when they go. I'm glad that you cared enough to help her not be in so much pain. I've known some people who keep their dogs around way too long for their own selfish reasons. I am also one of those people who believe that animals have spirits, just like we do. Because of this, I know Dakota is in a better place where she feels no pain. She sounds like she was a wonderful and loyal dog. I'm so sorry that she had to go. I'll be thinking about you guys a lot!

Hey guys,

I know how hard it is sometimes to do the right thing for someone else regardless of how you feel and I am so proud of you guys for having the courage to do the kindest thing you could for Dakota when she was having such a hard time. She was a beautiful dog and sounds like she was a wonderful part of your family. I'm so sorry for the hard time you guys are going through right now. Our thoughts are with you.

Hi Mike and Sue. Yes I have been delinquent in writing. Sorry for the loss of Dakota - even if she wasn't the most friendly dog to me (quick Sue put the dogs in the backyard! No Ken, don't go out there! - you remember?) Anyway, I know the loss that you feel, although with you both they really do become your "family".

I looked at the blog on Silver Spring and definately want to go there the next time we come down. Cool looking place. I had never heard of the minkeys running wild there.

Take care and I will try and call this week.
Love,
Ken

I got teary reading about the loss of your Dakota. I am so sorry. We had to put Millie down a year or two after we got here and it is heartwrenching. Our Dakota is 12 yrs old too and fortunately in good shape but I know the time will come....They are such loyal and loving friends. Does Starr miss her as much as you two? I imagine so. I agree with Heather that animals have spirits and continue to exist after they leave our mortal sphere! It wouldn't be heaven without our loved ones, even furry ones, would it?
Love and sympathy to you both
